A die (20) for die-casting a V-block for an internal combustion engine may b e operated by a wide range of die-casting machines, including those with inadequate capacity to operate the normally heavy dies for large cast parts. Such a die (20) includes, in addition to a stationary die element (21) for t he stationary platen of a die-casting machine, only a single movable die elemen t (22) carried by the tie bars (13), said single movable die element (22) carrying cavity forming slides (25), cylinder-forming die core pieces (23), and means (30) for locking the die core pieces (23) in their extended cylind er- forming positions whereby the stationary die element (21), cavity forming slides (25) and cylinder-forming die core pieces (23) form a die cavity.
