<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which does not cause image defects such as fog including minute black spots by damage due to a reverse bias, can stably supply a high quality image even after repeated image formation and is ecologically advantageous because of little generation of NOx, ozone, etc., and to provide a process cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus comprising an injection electrifying means which directly injects charges from an electrifying member into a photoreceptor, an exposure means, a developing means which forms a toner image on the photoreceptor, a transfer means which transfers the toner image to a transfer material optionally through an intermediate transfer member, and an auxiliary electrifying means which is disposed in contact with the photoreceptor between the transfer device and the injection electrifying means and applies a bias reverse to that of injection electrification, wherein a toner remaining on the photoreceptor after transfer is recovered in the injection electrifying means and/or the developing device and the photoreceptor is repeatedly used in image formation, the photoreceptor has a photosensitive layer containing a gallium phthalocyanine compound and a protective layer which is a charge injection layer.
