<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which the protection film is formed in a uniform thickness throughout the display region with improved reliability and the frame edge region can be made smaller, and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The end face 11D of the protection film 11C is formed along the vertical face VP including the corresponding end face 21A of the sealing substrate 21. The end face 11D of the protection film 11C becomes to form a nearly vertical cross section at the position of the end face 21A of the sealing substrate and the whole display region 11A is covered by a protection film 11C of the uniform thickness. It is preferable that the distance D between the bottom end 11G of the end face 11D and the vertical face VP is established to be 2 mm or less. It is preferable that the end face 11D of the protection film 11C is formed by an anisotropic etching using the sealing substrate 21 as a mask after forming the protection film 11C on the whole face of the driving sealing substrate 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
