PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the scale and the cost of system elements even having a structure for canceling the wavelength dispersion of a transmission line.

SOLUTION: The optical transmitter has a coder for coding multi-wavelength pulses corresponding to transmission data in a time dispersion/wavelength hopping system according to its own code pattern. The coder performs a time delay in the coding every wavelength component and a time delay in a precharp process for previously compensating the propagation delay difference due to the wavelength dispersion of a transmission line by α% every wavelength component at the same time. The optical receiver has a decoder for decoding optical signals sent by the optical transmitter according to its own decode pattern. The decoder performs a time delay in the decoding every wavelength component and a time delay in a dispersion compensating process for compensating the propagation delay difference due to the wavelength dispersion of the transmission line by β% every wavelength component at the same time.
