PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method for an organic halogen compound which does not generate a toxic substance, is excellent in treatment efficiency, can recover raw materials and is effective in environmental protection, and a treatment method for a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: The method has a process for mixing the raw materials comprising the organic halogen compound and the magnetic tape with at least either one of a metal oxide, a metal and an alkali, a process for performing mechanochemical treatment by friction and collision and causing decomposition reaction, and a process for incineration. In the incineration process, a treatment method in which a mechanochemical treatment time is selected according to a grade of the decomposition reaction of a sample obtained by the mechanochemical treatment.
