FRAME INTERPOLATION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frame interpolation method for conducting a correct frame interpolation even in a region wherein a plurality of motions are overlapped or an occlusion region without causing a gap wherein no image data exist or an overlapped part. SOLUTION: Procedures of frame interpolation processing includes: a step S101 of obtaining a first motion vector between adjacent frames; a step S102 of fixing the end point of the first motion vector and moving the start point on an interpolation frame face to generate a second motion vector; a step S103 of detecting a local area pointed out by the end point of the second motion vector whose start point is included in an interpolation object block when the second motion vector whose start point is included in the interpolation object block is moved in parallel with the start point of the interpolation object block among the second motion vector with respect to each interpolation object block on the interpolation frame face as a searching area, and obtaining overlap information including the information of the searching area; and steps S104 to S108 of using a third motion vector detected from the searching area and applying motion compensation to the interpolation object block to generate an interpolation frame.
