PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device suitable to recording in real time while maintaining compatibility with existing recording devices. SOLUTION: The recording area of a hard disk is managed by making a unit which has a prescribed size and which is constituted of physically continuous recording areas a unit and operating conditions of units are stored in an AU (Allocation Unit) management table. Data which require the processing in real time are stored by making the unit a unit. When the operating condition of the unit is changed by the recording of data or the deleting of data, the AU management table is updated and information indicating that the AU management table is updated is recorded in the table. An ultimate permutation device is detected (S200) at the time of inserting a hard disk or at the time of initializing a file system and when the ultimate permutation device is a file system which does not use the AU management table (N of S202), the table is reconfigured (S204) in order to maintain the consistence of the AU management table.
