A ground spike for a sunshade or parasol has a flat steel plate (1) with a ground spike (7) fitted to the underside. The top of the plate is fitted with a metal sleeve (2) to grip the shaft of the sunshade. A hand grip (3) is fitted between the sleeve and the plate. The top of the sleeve is provided with a threaded clamp (4) to secure the shaft of the sunshade and with a U-shaped metal foil (5) placed over the thread of the fastener. The user presses the spike into the ground by standing on the plate. The hand grip enables the user to pull the spike out of the ground.
