The nozzle assembly has a bore (40) accommodating a sleeve (42) with a needle (44) inside it. The sleeve has a shallow angle conical end engaging with a first valve seat (46), and the needle has a sharp conical end engaging a second valve seat (50). When the sleeve is lifted, fuel can flow through a narrow channel (114) parallel to the bore into an annular space (116) surrounding the sleeve and can flow out into the combustion chamber via a first set of bores (48). Lifting of the needle allows fuel to flow through a second set of bores (52) as well as the first.
