摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more effectively improve fuel efficiency, while securing exhaust emission performance. <P>SOLUTION: In a partial load range of an engine, flowing condition of the intake/exhaust is controlled so that the burned gas discharged from preceding cylinders 2A and 2D on an exhaust stroke side in pairs of cylinders having an exhaust stroke and an intake stroke overlapped with each other is led into following cylinders 2B and 2C through a gas passage 22 formed between the cylinders. In a high load side range of the partial load range, a fresh air lead-in valve 18 provided in a fresh air lead-in passage of the following cylinders 2B and 2C is opened to lead both of the burned gas and the fresh air into the following cylinders 2B and 2C, and the fuel is supplied to perform combustion in the following cylinders 2B and 2C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
