<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an image of handwritten characters color-developed on the paper in real time so as to be recognized, even if using a pen, which has only a pen pressure detection function as a writing-implement, and which can not write characters on an ordinary paper as a ballpoint pen. <P>SOLUTION: This system uses a means for detecting the pen pressure when signing by handwriting; a means for extracting a temporal variation pattern of the detected pen pressure or the characteristics obtained from the pattern; a means for comparing and collating the temporal variation pattern of the pen pressure or the characteristics obtained from the pattern with personal data registered in advance; and no carbon papers wherein the characters color-developed by applying the pen pressure are easily recognizable from a pen-pressure-applied surface.
