PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional meta-directory agent for managing entries from different kinds of data sources. SOLUTION: The meta-directory agent includes a data source converter layer; a filer and rule layer for blocking an unallowable change; a mapping layer for converting a local set of an attribute name to a set of a meta-directory attribute name, inversely converting an attribute in a change command and converting the change command between an intra-agent common format and a directory change protocol; an extensible user customize layer for implementing a custom meta-directory agent function; and a meta-directory interface for transmitting and receiving the change command by means of the directory change protocol.
