PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a simple and inexpensive head and gimbal assembly by integrating and unifying mechanical connection and electrical connection. SOLUTION: The head and gimbal assembly 34 comprises a substrate 52 provided with an installing area 36, a bending area 38, and a gimbal 40. The substrate comprises a flexible cable 46 and an electrical mutual connection part 48 formed on a surface, and the mutual connection part extends from the installing area 36 to the gimbal 40 of the substrate across the bending area 38. The substrate 52 is mechanically and electrically connected to an actuator arm with a solder bump 42 provided in the installing area 36. The solder bump 42 is electrically connected with the flexible cable 46 through an electric lead 44. A hard plate 50 is made to adhere or connected to the substrate between the installing area 36 and the bending area 38. The hard plate 50 is bent so as to reach the orientation and height of a target (z) to apply previous load to the assembly 34. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
