PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the optimum utilization for the storage resource of a storage device. SOLUTION: A method for controlling a storage system comprises: the storage resource for storing data; and a connection means for a computer utilizing the storage resource. The method also comprises: a step for dividing the storage resource into groups and further dividing each group into subgroups; a step for selecting the group having the lowest number of allocated subgroups out of the groups in allocating the subgroup to the computer; and a step for selecting the subgroup allocated to the computer out of the unallocated subgroups belonging to the selected group.
