PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas meter and a control method therefor, capable of keeping a voltage of a battery normal to prevent malfunction, and suppressing consumption of the battery to keep a service life long. SOLUTION: This gas meter operating by the battery has a pulse motor 64 opening and closing a cutoff valve cutting off a gas flow passage; a pattern generation circuit 61 generating a pattern signal defining operation of the pulse motor 64; and a drive circuit 63' generating a drive signal which specifies a direction of current flowing through a coil of the pulse motor 64 on the basis of the pattern signal from the pattern generation circuit 61, and driving the pulse motor 64. The gas meter has a no-voltage generation circuit 62 generating a no-voltage section supplying no voltage to the coil of the pulse motor 64 on the basis of the pattern signal from the pattern generation circuit 61. The drive circuit 63' reverses the direction of the current flowing through the coil of the pulse motor 64 via the no-voltage section from the no-voltage generation circuit 62. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
