PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method with which even an annular thin member having large diameter can be subjected to quenching at small deformation and a low cost. SOLUTION: The size of a first gap C1 between the inner peripheral surface of the steel-made annular member 1 and the outer peripheral surface 21 of a cylindrical projecting part 11b in a holding tool 10, is made to be > 0% to≤0.11% of the inner diameter D of the annular member 1 so as to insert the projecting part 11b through a center hole of the annular member 1. Further, the size of a second gap C2 between the annular member 1 and a holding surface 23, is made to be≤6% of the width h of the annular member 1 so as to interpose the annular member 1 between the upper and the lower parts with two holding surfaces 22, 23 in the holding tool 10. A plurality of pins 32 are radially disposed in the inside of the annular member 1 and the positions in the diameter direction of the outer end parts of the pins 32, are adjusted by adjusting the length of a connecting member 40. Then, the quenching is applied while pushing the inner peripheral surface of the annular member 1 with the outer end parts of the pins 32. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
