摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting skew angle and position for a document, without being affected by roughness of document border or of irregularities of document form. <P>SOLUTION: The method for detecting skew angle and position of a document in an overscanned digital image is provided. The document is scanned, and its grayscale image is acquired. Then, outline pixels of the document from the acquired gray scale image are sequentially connected to generate an outline polygon. An initial angle theta is set to zero, and minimum values for x and y, and maximum values for x and y of the polygon are determined. Based on the minimum values for x and y, and the maximum values for x and y, the border area of a rectangle form is calculated and recorded. Then, the angle is recorded, and the polygon is rotated by an angle z. These steps are repeated, to select the minimum value of border area. An angle, corresponding to the minimum value of border area, is set as the skew angle for the document. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
