PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging element that includes light receiving elements divided to master and slave photosensitive sections with different sensitivity and uses only the master photosensitive section to extend the dynamic range of its own. SOLUTION: The master photosensitive section 34 is set to have a high sensitivity to extend the dynamic range of the master photosensitive section 34, and signal electric charges are read from only the master photosensitive section 34. The read signal electric charges are digitized and respectively stored into two image memories 88a, 88b. The gain of the digital signal stored in the one memory 88a is increased and an image composite section 98 composes the resulting digital signal with the digital signal stored in the other memory 88b.
