RECOMBINANT CATALYTIC POLYPEPTIDES AND THEIR USES

The present invention provides a recombinant catalytic polypeptide for cleaving a target protein, the nucleic acid encoding the recombinant catalyt ic polypeptide, a cell hosting the nucleic acid encoding the recombinant catalytic polypeptide, and a non-human transgenic mammal that is capable of producing a heterologous antibody with proteolytic activity. The invention also provides methods of cleaving a target protein using the recombinant catalytic polypeptides both in vitro and in vivo. The invention further provides a library of recombinant catalytic polypeptides with altered enzymatic activity and a method to alter enzymatic activity of the recombina nt catalytic polypeptides.
