PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for charging red-hot coke into a CDQ, wherein only one CDQ can deal with a large number of coke oven pushings. SOLUTION: The method comprises alternately: a first step of hoisting by a first crane 9 a bucket 7 into which red-hot coke pushed from coke ovens 1, 2 has been charged and which is on a bucket truck 6, carrying the bucket 7 to the upper part of the prechamber of a CDQ, and directly charging the red-hot coke into the prechamber from the bucket 7; and a second step of hoisting by a second crane 10 a bucket 7 into which red-hot coke pushed from coke ovens 3, 4 has been charged and which is on a bucket truck 6, charging the red-hot coke from the bucket 7 into a movable hopper 12 which can travel to the upper part of the prechamber, moving the hopper 12 to the upper part of the prechamber, and charging the red-hot coke into the prechamber.
