<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection and transmission compatible type display device capable of being simply driven, free from mixture of colors and having a high light utilizing efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: In the display device 1, a bandpass filter layer 18 transmitting light having a specified wavelength region of light having a visible light region and reflecting light having the wavelength region of the rest is provided on one surface side of a liquid crystal layer 15 and a color filter layer 12 is provided on the other surface side of the liquid crystal layer 15. A red color filter layer 12R is provided in the position corresponding to a red region 18R transmitting light having a specified wavelength region of red light, a green color filter layer 12G is provided in the position corresponding to a green region 18G transmitting light having a specified wavelength region of green light, and a blue color filter layer 12B is provided in the position corresponding to a blue region 18B transmitting light having a specified wavelength region of blue light.
