<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for calculating the direct mode motion vector of a B picture. <P>SOLUTION: When the direct mode motion vector of the B picture is extracted in a moving picture encoding system, when a list 1 reference picture for a direct mode of the B picture temporally precedes or follows the B picture, a motion vector determined despite a mode (list 0 and/or list 1) of a motion vector belonging to a co-located block in the list 1 reference picture in the direct mode is scaled to derive a list 0 motion vector (MV<SB>F</SB>) and a list 1 motion vector (MV<SB>B</SB>) to calculate the direct mode motion vector of the B picture. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
