PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display bitmap fonts used in a portable telephone, PDA, and the like, with less arithmetic quantity and with high quality. SOLUTION: A font processor acquires data of a bitmap font preliminarily prepared and analyzes the pixel structure of the font data through pattern matching. Then, in accordance with the pixel structure, a sub-pixel font is generated which is the data of sub-pixel units constituting the pixel of the font data. A sub-pixel is an element structuring a pixel, with one pixel normally structured as the assembly of three sub-pixels comprising R (red), G (green), and B (blue). By analyzing the pixel structure and forming a sub-pixel font which is the assembly of data of sub-pixel units, a pseudo increase in the resolution of the font data is attained. Consequently, expression of finer lines is realized, enabling jaggedness to be reduced that occurs in the hatched part of the font data of pixel units.
