<p>A mailbox has a housing 1 with an interior cavity 2 for accommodating mail delivered to the mailbox. The housing has a mail delivery opening 8 through which mail can be delivered into the cavity, and a mail retrieval opening 3 through which delivered mail can be retrieved from the cavity. The mailbox has a lid 4 which is closable over the mail delivery and mail retrieval openings. An optional closure 7 can close over a portion of the mail retrieval opening 3, to leave open the remaining portion of the mail retrieval opening which then provides the mail delivery opening 8. The optional closure 7 may have a lock 12.</p>
