<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for suppressing the occurrence of a cleaning failure, noise, damage to a member and further suppressing the decrease in printing speed and an increase in the running cost in the image forming apparatus of a constitution carrying out cleaning by using a plate-like cleaning member for an image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with an image carrier 6 forming a developer image on its surface and a plate-like cleaning member 95 which abuts on the image carrier 6 and cleans its surface. Furthermore, the number of printed pieces detecting means 15, 16 and 17 for detecting the number of printed pieces which is the number of times of image formation and developer consumed quantity detecting means 15, 16 and 17 for detecting the consumed developer quantity are provided. A developer image for control is formed on the image carrier 6 at a timing which is other than an image forming period according to the detected number of printed pieces and the quantity of consumed developer, and the developer image for control is made to reach the plate-like cleaning member 95. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
