METHOD FOR MANAGING VOLUME AND OBSTRUCTION IN NETWORK HAVING STORAGE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for easily grasping correspondence relationship between an actual volume and a virtual volume in a storage area network (SAN). SOLUTION: A SAN manager acquires information managed by respective devices connected to the SAN from management agents of the respective devices and detects and manages virtual volume mapping and actual volume mapping in the SAN on the basis of the acquired information. A SAN management server maintains an event dictionary for interpreting contents of obstruction notifying messages received from the respective devices within the SAN and when it receives an obstruction notifying message, it detects impact of the obstruction on I/O access of the virtual volume. A function for checking virtual volume preparation request of a SAN manager is realized on the basis of virtual volume mapping information or actual volume mapping information. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
