PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a prefetch buffer of a memory controller to function effectively. SOLUTION: A memory controller 200' which reads from DRAMs 230'-233' in response to requests from a plurality of masters 220'-223' includes a prefetch buffer 205' which retains the result of the advance reading; a register for setting a specific master among the plurality of masters 220'-223'; and a control circuit 201' which, upon a read request from the master, discriminates whether or not the master is the one set in the register and stores the result of the advance reading in the prefetch buffer 205', if the master is discriminated to be the one.
