PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rod integrator and a projector with which a bright light of uniform intensity with a high light use efficiency. SOLUTION: The rod integrator has a light guiding part 201 where light impinging from one end side thereof is repeatedly reflected and is emitted from the other end side and a peripheral wall part 204 which is provided with a first end face 202 and a second end face 203 and is provided around the light guiding part 201, and the peripheral wall part 204 has the first end face 202 being a polished flat surface which light impinges on or is reflected by, the second end face 203 being a polished flat surface which light impinges on or is reflected by, and a reflecting film 204a which repeatedly reflects light impinging from one of the first end face 202 and the second end face 203 to emit the light from the other end face.
