PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound having activity to control a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor, and a pharmaceutical agent containing the compound as an effective ingredient. SOLUTION: The controlling agent of peroxome proliferator-activated receptor contains a compound expressed by formula (I), its salt and its compound as effective ingredients. The agent is useful as a blood sugar depressant, a hypolipidemic agent, an agent for preventing and/or treating diabetes, metabolically abnormal diseases such as obesity, syndrome X, hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipoprotemia, and hyperlipidemia, athlerosclerosis, hypertension, disorder of cardiovascular system, hyperphagia, ischemic heart diseases, and the like, also as an HDL cholesterol elevation agent, a reducing agent of LDL cholesterol and/or VLDL cholesterol and a risk factor-reducing agent of diabetes, syndrome X, and the like.
