The appliance has a profile advance unit (3), a guide element (1) engaging on the profile, and a bending sleeve (5) in a retainer element (4). The profile (7) is turned in or with the guide element, and in/with the bending sleeve, about a longitudinal axis (L). The bending sleeve is born pivoted via the retainer element about a first hinge point of a rocker arm, which in turn is pivoted about a second hinge point. The retainer element is held in a guide groove, so that the inner surface of the sleeve acting in a bending manner on the outside of the profile, is permanently tangential to an arc of a circle corresponding to the desired bending radius, when the position of the retainer element in the groove changes.
