<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot water storage type water heater having less possibility of providing uncomfortable feeling to a user even if the supply of hot water is started in auxiliary hot water supply state in which the stored amount of hot water is less than the minimum secured amount. <P>SOLUTION: This hot water storage type water heater comprises a hot water storage tank storing hot water by forming a thermal stratification, a hot water circulation means heating hot water taken out from the bottom part of the hot water storage tank and supplying the hot water to the upper part of the hot water storage tank, and a hot water supply control means switchable between a normal hot water supply state for supplying the stored hot water to a hot water supply passage and an auxiliary hot water supply state for supplying the heated hot water from the heating means to the hot water supply passage. When the stored amount of hot water Q1 is larger than the minimum secured amount Q2, the hot water supply control means is switched to the normal hot water supply state and, when the stored amount of hot water is less than the minimum secured amount, it is switched to the auxiliary hot water supply state.
