PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 24P variable speed imaging and recording apparatus which obtains a 24P imaging signal at a variable speed such as slow and fast forwarding without the need for an external converter. SOLUTION: The 24P variable speed imaging recording apparatus is provided with: an imaging signal generating section for obtaining a progressive imaging signal of various frame rates; a drive pulse generating section for outputting a drive pulse; a first memory section for writing an output signal from the imaging signal generating section for a prescribed period and intermittently reading the signal according to prescribed rules; a changeover circuit for switching an output signal from the imaging signal generating section and an output signal from the first memory section; an imaging signal processing section for applying camera process processing to an output signal of the changeover circuit; and a second memory section for writing the output signal of the imaging signal processing section and reading a signal for the read period of the first memory section in a so-called 2:3 pull-down form, wherein the 24-frame signal is converted into a 60-field signal, and providing an output. The 24P variable speed imaging and recording apparatus converts the signals of various frame rates into a 24P time base and records the result in the 60i 2:3 pull-down form. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
