PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight machine for surely digging and picking up field crops, with which the field crops in ridge soil or on a ridge soil level are surely dug or picked up without impairing shaking-off effect on soil in the middle of transportation. SOLUTION: The machine for digging and picking up the field crops comprises an inclined transportation conveyor 2 with which a plurality of inner plates 2h and outer plates 2i provided with axial holes at both ends are arranged in parallel in a displaced state of positions at intervals of one pitch, both the inner and outer plate groups placed in parallel are symmetrically arranged at given intervals, middle pins are inserted into the axial holes at intervals of one pitch and screwed by nuts 2k. Rodlike conveyor crosspieces are inserted into the axial holes between the middle pins between the opposing inner plates 2i and screwed by the nuts 2k to constitute an endless chain 2a. In the machine, the endless chain 2a is stretched over between a chain wheel 2d and a sprocket 2c axially installed on both ends of a driven shaft 2f and a driving shaft 2e to form 45 mm thickness d1 at the front end and 60 mm thickness d2 at the rear end.
