Liquid crystalline medium with one component containing compound(s) with a 3-fluoro- or 3,5-difluoro- 4-cyanophenyl group attached to a cyclohexane ring or an optionally fluorinated benzene ring by a single bond or an ester group, and one component containing 1-cyclohexyl-2-(4-phenylcyclohexyl)-ethylene compound(s). Liquid crystalline (LC) medium comprising: (a) a component containing at least one compound of formula (I), and (b) a component containing at least one compound of formula (II). L11 = H or F; R11, R21 = 1-12C alkyl or 2-12C alkenyl; R22 = 1-12C alkyl or 2-12C alkenyl (both optionally with one CH2 group replaced by -O-); Z1 = a single bond or -COO-; ring A = 1,4-phenylene, 3-fluoro-1,4-phenylene, 3,5-difluoro-1,4-phenylene or trans-1,4-cyclohexylene. This medium shows a dielectric anisotropy (DELTAe-corr) of up to (5.V10 + 32)/(V10)2. An Independent claim is also included for electro-optical display devices, especially TN or STN displays, containing a medium as described above. |
