Warning system installed on road vehicle detects presence of other vehicle in blind zone of first vehicle and calculates relative speed of two vehicles

The first vehicle (F1) has a warning system which covers a dead region (W1) on the right-hand side of the vehicle. A similar region is covered on the left-hand side of the vehicle. Intrusion of a second vehicle (F2) into the dead zone is sensed. The system may use IR transmitters and IR receivers. Signals may be differentiated or time-compared to give a measure of the relative speeds of the two vehicles.
