摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost phase differential optical element with a UV reflective function capable of decreasing the incident UV rays on a liquid crystal cell, and a liquid crystal display device provided therewith. <P>SOLUTION: The phase differential optical element 10 with the UV reflective function is provided with a phase differential layer 12 having a cholesteric regular liquid crystal molecular structure subjected to planar alignment. The phase differential layer 12 is so constituted that at least part of the selected reflection wavelength band of the selected reflected light occurring in the liquid crystal molecular structure is included in a UV region of 100 to 400 nm and that the maximum reflectivity in the UV region attains &ge;30%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
