PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide base paper for decorative sheets having sufficient interlaminar strength and masking properties without staining a calender even when a wax moistureproof agent is used and moistureproof performances required for preventing the warpage and affording decorative laminates without causing the warpage and without using a special material or without carrying out special processing steps in a process for preparing the decorative laminates. SOLUTION: The base paper for the decorative sheets is obtained by coating a coated surface of a woody substrate of the base paper having 40-100 g/m<SP>2</SP>basis weight prepared by internally adding 5-20 wt.% of titanium dioxide impregnated with 10-30 wt.% of a thermoplastic resin with 5-30 g/m<SP>2</SP>of the wax moistureproof agent.
