PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information material production system for facilitating production of information material. SOLUTION: The system is provided with a plurality of metadata nodes operable to process metadata describing contents or attributes of information material, and a data communications network for transmitting and receiving metadata between the metadata nodes. The metadata are represented as metadata string describing the contents or the attributes of the information material. Associated metadata resource may provide further metadata having a substantial volume. By describing the associated metadata resource with a URI contained within the metadata string, the metadata resource is accessible from, e.g. a web browser. Accordingly, the metadata resource does not need to be transmitted with the metadata string, thereby substantially reducing a bandwidth requirement or data communications traffic required on the data communications network.
