PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader for performing shading correction processing wherein the fluctuations of quantity of light of a light source in the vertical scanning direction of an original image are eliminated. SOLUTION: A first carriage 27 is made to arrange a second white reference plate 32 at a position where light emitted from the light source 23 is reflected to a first mirror 24, first reference data based on reflected light from the first white reference plate 31 is changed by second reference data based on reflected light from the second white reference plate 32, and original image data read from original image is corrected on the basis of the changed first reference data.
