Real-time system for monitoring theft protection

A theft security system (2) is provided with two transceiver devices (4,6) disposed at two passages (8,10) for detecting anti-theft labels attached to items, while a registration system (14) registers and identifies persons moving along a passage for the staff which is closed off from the store area (20) by a door (18). Checkout goods are scanned by devices (36,38) at the checkout blocks (22,24) and deactivation devices (30,32) are used to deactivate the anti-theft labels on goods being purchased.
