The trough 1 of a hydraulic sugar-beet conveying device is cleaned by automatically injecting water under pressure through nozzles 5 into a stream of water, sugar-beet, stones and earth at an adjustable rate, successively at several points distributed along the length of the trough 1. The water injection is controlled by actuated valves, and the injection may take place at two successive points at once, for overlapping durations. The water injectors may take the form shown in Fig. 5.
