Mixtures of silane-modified polyvinylalcohols

Silane-modified polyvinyl alcohol mixtures (I) contain: (a) a low-molecular silane-containing polyvinyl alcohol with a Hoeppler viscosity (to DIN 53015 as 4 wt.% aqueous solution) of 1-25 mPas; and (b) a higher-molecular silane-containing polyvinyl alcohol with a Hoeppler viscosity of 10-50 mPas. (a) has a lower Hoeppler viscosity than (b) and the fraction of silane-containing comonomer units is 0.01-10 mole-% in each. An Independent claim is also included for the production of (I) by bulk, suspension or solution polymerization in organic solvent and alkaline hydrolysis of the resultant polymers.
