[Also in Division B1] In a heat exchanger e.g. for endo and exothermic chemical reactions with a catalyst, at least one member has a body part 1 composed of sintered elements having a tubular, spherical or other predetermined regular form before sintering, through which a first heat. exchange fluid is caused to traverse and a co-operating thermally conductive wall part 2 in intimate thermal contact with said body part and arranged to separate the heat exchange fluids. The elements may be made of brass, stainless steel, copper or an electric insulating material having a crystalline structure. The elements may be made in the form of circular discs and may be disposed in the wall part in spaced relation, the spaces being occupied by catalytic elements (Fig. 2, not shown). A particular application of this type of heat exchanger when the elements are made of copper is the ortho-para transformation of liquid hydrogen. |
