PURPOSE: A patient monitoring system module address setting system and method is provided to set a module address in a patient monitoring system with multiple modules, to make a primary card recognize a new module, and to make the module get an address. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a microprocessor(30) of a primary card, multiple modules(32), a backplane board(34) and a port line(36). The modules(32) input bio signals. The backplane board(34) plays a role of an interface function between the microprocessor(30) and the modules(32). The port line(36) sets an address between the microprocessor(30) and the modules(32). The backplane board(34) includes a switching part(340), a PLD(Programmable Logic Device, 350), and a connector(360). The switching part(340) discriminates a corresponding backplane board. The PLD(350) sets the backplane board according to a process result of the switching part(340), and processes an address setting signal output from the microprocessor(30). The connector(360) connects the PLD(350) to a corresponding module(32).
