The use of an alpha 1-adrenergic receptor blocker is claimed as an optic nerve protecting agent. ACTIVITY : Ophthalmological; Neuroprotective; Vasotropic; Antidiabetic. In assays using rat retinal neurons the % of cells surviving in the presence of 1 mM glutamic acid and 0.1 MicroM terazosin hydrochloride was 70.7% compared to 68.7% for a control and 48.6% in the presence of 1mM glutamic acid.
