A catalytic membrane reactor comprises a body, a tubular ceramic porous membrane element that is coaxially disposed inside the body to remove the hydrogen and a catalyst for the thermal decomposition of the hydrogen sulfide into sulfur and hydrogen. A layer of the catalyst is deposited directly on the tubular ceramic porous membrane element.
