The recovery of argon comprises feeding a first process air stream to a high pressure column and separating into a first oxygen-rich liquid and a first nitrogen head gas; feeding a first oxygen-rich fraction from the high pressure column into a middle pressure column and separating into a second oxygen-rich fraction and a second nitrogen head gas; and partially condensing the second nitrogen head gas by indirect heat exchange with a cooling fluid. Process for recovering argon comprises: (a) feeding a first process air stream (10) to a high pressure column (11) and separating into a first oxygen-rich liquid and a first nitrogen head gas; (b) feeding a first oxygen-rich fraction (23, 24, 26) from the high pressure column into a middle pressure column (12) and separating into a second oxygen-rich fraction and a second nitrogen head gas; (c) partially condensing the second nitrogen head gas by indirect heat exchange with a cooling fluid; (d) feeding a second oxygen-rich fraction into the low pressure column (13) and separating into a third oxygen-rich liquid and a third nitrogen head gas; (e) introducing an argon-containing fraction into a crude argon column and separating into a crude argon head fraction and an oxygen-rich liquid; and (f) feeding a part of the head fraction into a condenser (29) and partially condensing. A fraction (72) is recovered from the upper region of the crude argon column as crude argon product. An Independent claim is also included for a device for the low temperature air decomposition. Preferred Features: The crude argon condenser is formed as a falling film evaporator.
