A polyacetylene having a pseudo-hexagonal structure and a super helical conjugated structure due to pi electrons of double bonds is produced by exposing a polyacetylene represented by the general formula (1) to an organic solvent atmosphere: (1) wherein R is o-, m-, or p-phenyl-CxH2x+1 or the like; x is an integer of 1 or above; and n is an integer of 10 or above.
