PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing a polycarbonate resin, which produces a polycarbonate resin having high molecular weight in a short time with high efficiency by solid-phase polymerization using the same catalyst throughout the whole period of reaction. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing a polycarbonate resin comprises the step of polymerizing a starting material containing a dihydroxyl compound and a carbonate diester in the presence of a catalyst formed of a nitrogen-containing organic basic compound or a mixture of a nitrogen-containing organic basic compound and an alkali or an alkaline earth metal. In the method, the polycarbonate resin is prepared by transesterification, and the nitrogen-containing organic basic compound is preferably a quaternary ammonium salt.
