PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a battery charger are provided to improve the stability of charging operation by controlling a current value of three-phase power within a normal value range. CONSTITUTION: A power supply(20) supplies three-phase power. A phase control rectifier(21) rectifies the three-phase power supplied from the power supplier(20) by synchronizing with a control signal applied from an outside and controls a current value of the three-phase power rectified according to a phase of the control signal. A charger(22) charges the three-phase power rectified by the phase control rectifier(21). A controller(23) detects the current value of the three-phase power rectified by the phase control rectifier(21) and generates a control signal having a varied phase corresponding to the detected current value to apply it to the phase control rectifier(21).
